Key Insights & Our Expertise

Overview

Launched in 2023, the D8 visa provides the perfect opportunity for digital nomads and remote workers to live in Portugal.

There are two options with the D8:

1. Residency permit (long-term)

Works in the same way as the D7: 4-month visa, converted to a 2-year residency permit, renewable for a further 3 years. You can apply for citizenship after five years.

2. Temporary stay visa (short-term)

Valid for one year. No option for residency, but can be renewed for futher 6-months.

Eligibility

  • Non-EU citizen with clean criminal record.
  • The main applicant must earn €3,680+ p/month in active income (remote salary, self-employment, etc).
  • Financial requirements are higher for the D8 when compared to the D7 because active income is considered less stable than passive income.
  • Your eligibility will be confirmed during your free consultation.

Process (D8 residency permit)

  1. Gather all documentation required for the D8 visa.
  2. Attend visa appointment in your home country & await approval.
  3. Collect your D8 visa (valid for 4 months).
  4. You’re free to move to Portugal and wait for your AIMA appointment, where you will convert your visa to a 2-year residency permit.

How we can help

Navigating the D8 process by yourself is complex, time-consuming, and incredibly stressful. Requirements change over time, bureaucracy is excessive, and there is rarely one straight answer for the requirements.

We offer a full D8 visa package, containing everything you need to obtain your residency and more, including a Portuguese bank account and tax number (NIF). For more on what’s included, see below.
